Reading Magic 4 Phonograms and Digraphs is an educational app designed for iPhone users. Developed by PRESCHOOL UNIVERSITY, this free app focuses on phonograms and digraphs, helping children gain mastery over words containing these elements.
The app offers three modes to enhance learning. The Blending Mode assists learners in developing the essential skill of blending, which prepares them for segmenting. The Segmenting Mode helps children learn how to break down words into individual sounds, a key predictor of reading success. The Reading Mode encourages true reading by hiding pictures, discouraging reliance on picture guessing.
Reading Magic 4 Phonograms and Digraphs Deluxe targets words with spelling/sound variations such as ar, ch, ck, ee, er, ng, oa, sh, th, qu, soft c, and soft g. However, the free version only includes ar, ch, ck, and ee variations.
With over 320 words, this app provides ample opportunities for children to blend, segment, and read words with these blends and digraphs. However, in the free version, only 52 words are available, with the remaining words accessible through in-app purchases.
The app also features both male and female voices for every word and picture. While some words may be outside the everyday vocabulary of young learners, this presents an opportunity to build their vocabulary. The app has been developed by a team of educators using accelerated learning techniques and Montessori principles, ensuring an enjoyable and effective learning experience for preschoolers.
